3–4 October 2026 | Timaru

A bloody good excuse to go racing.

The South Island Masters Games isn't about proving you've still got it. If you're still pinning on a number, you already know you have.

This is a relaxed weekend built around something cyclists never really grow out of: racing bikes with their mates.

Race on the track on Saturday, then line up for a 10km individual time trial and road race at Levels Raceway on Sunday.

Come for one event, come for the lot, or get a few mates together and make a weekend of it.

35+ and still refusing to act your age.
Saturday | Track Cycling

Ever thought about giving track a crack?

You might have spent years racing on the road and never actually lined up on a track.

Saturday's programme at the Caledonian Grounds gives you another reason to bring the bike south and make a proper weekend of it.

Track regular? Brilliant. Track-curious? Even better.

500m Time Trial Individual Pursuit 3000m Scratch Race
The Racing

Two days. Five chances to beat your mates.

Saturday 3 October

Track Cycling

The weekend starts at Timaru's Caledonian Grounds with a simple three-event track programme.

  • 500m Time Trial
  • Individual Pursuit
  • 3000m Scratch Race

Three very different events and a rather good way to start a weekend of bike racing.

Sunday 4 October

Road Cycling

Sunday moves to Levels Raceway for a morning individual time trial followed by road racing in the afternoon.

  • 10km Individual Time Trial
  • Road race on the Levels Raceway circuit
  • Distances adjusted by age category

Closed circuit. No traffic. Just you, your legs and whichever mate you've spent the drive down telling you're going to beat.

Masters Racing

Race people your own age.

Competition is across five-year Masters age categories starting at 35–39 and continuing through the older age groups.

Depending on entry numbers, some racing groups may be combined on the road or track, while results and medals can still be recognised across the appropriate age categories.
