"Crashes, Comebacks, and the Snowy Waikari 100"

🏆 Most Memorable Race or Biggest Challeng e

Biggest challenge? Coming back from a major accident in 1988 that quite literally reshaped my personality. On the brighter side—smashing out the Waikari 100km Classic in the snow back in the 80s. Because nothing says 'true cyclist' like voluntarily racing through a blizzard.

"Data is Great, But Don't Forget the Feel"

💡 Advice for New Racer s

Sure, analytical data is important (and these days, it’s everywhere), but the real key? Get to know your body and enjoy the whole process of training and racing. Most importantly—enjoy it! (Otherwise, what’s the point of all the suffering?)

"Fast Legs, Fast Bikes, and the European Dream"

🔥 What Do You Love About Racing ?

Back in the day, I was one of the fastest sprinters in my club—loved going really fast… still do! Nothing beats hammering it down historical roads in Europe, feeling like you’re part of cycling history. (And maybe pretending you’re winning Milan-San Remo.)

"Spin It to Win It"

🚀 Encouragement for New Racer s

Some of the best advice I got as a youngster? Learn to spin, master the gears, and get over the top of them. (Basically, make your legs work smarter, not harder.)

"Baked Beans, Blood, and British Winter Training"

😂 Funny Race Memorie s

Training in the wet Yorkshire winter—came down hard, slid 30 metres, barely missed a dry-stone wall hairpin, then carried on for another 50 miles on pure adrenaline. Ended up in a Sommerfield supermarket with a plate-sized hole in my shorts, blood pouring down my leg. A lady took one look, fainted, and knocked over a display of baked beans. Absolute carnage. Must’ve looked bad, huh?
